Holy Basil cut 50grams
Description
Tulsi, commonly known as “Holy Basil”, has a great traditional reputation as a premium Ayurvedic adaptogenic herb. Tulsi benefits many types of stress including physical, mental and metabolic. In the case of physical stress, Tulsi is powerfully antioxidant, supporting the body in its efforts to detoxify. It enhances the activity of endogenous antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione and superoxide-dismutase.
If we are mentally and emotionally stressed, free radical levels go up in the body. Holy Basil has been shown to decrease the amount of cortisol (the stress hormone), due to its rich phytochemical content. Three specific compounds are responsible for this action; Ocimumosides A and B and 4-allyl-1-O-beta-D-glucopyronosyl-2-hydroxybenzene – the latter having been shown in the laboratory to exhibit anti-anxiety properties. As a herbal adaptogen, Holy Basil helps to bring the endocrine system and hormones back into balance. Hormone imbalances can be the root cause of many problems including insomnia, fatigue, digestive issues, depression, weight gain and more.
The Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine reports that Holy Basil has anti-anxiety and antidepressant properties that are comparable to diazepam and other antidepressants.

Potential Risks and Side Effects
Holy basil is generally safe for regular consumption and topical use. However avoid combining Holy basil with pharmaceutical medications without first checking with a healthcare professional.
The herb helps people relax due to its anti-stress properties, but this could cause drowsiness if a person takes it alongside certain medications.
-
While it may help you feel calmer, it’s not a sedative and shouldn’t cause drowsiness.
- One note to keep in mind is that Holy Basil may slow blood clotting, so taking it along with medications that also slow clotting may increase the chances of bruising and bleeding. Some medications that slow blood clotting include Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Dalteparin, Enoxaparin, Heparin, Ticlopidine and Warfarin.
- Due to its influence on blood clotting, you should discontinue use of Holy basil two weeks before any scheduled surgery.
- Holy basil may cause problems during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so you should avoid using it during these times unless working with a doctor.
- To be safe, it’s generally recommended to use this herb for about six weeks or less before taking a break.
